Winston-Salem Planning Board Takes Up 211-Lot Project, Park-Land Sale Today

The Winston-Salem/Forsyth County City-County Planning Board has a packed agenda for its Thursday, Aug. 13 meeting, including several residential development proposals, zoning petitions and a public hearing involving city-owned park land.

The board is scheduled to meet at 4:30 p.m. on the fifth floor of the Bryce Stuart Municipal Building. Among the items up for review is Valmont Hills, a proposed 211-lot planned residential development covering 102.85 acres near the western end of Mountain View Road and northern end of Sun Creek Drive in Winston-Salem. The item was continued from the board’s May meeting.

The agenda also includes a public hearing on a proposal from Prosperity Alliance to purchase city park land on East Rhyne Avenue, across from Stockton Street. Other public-hearing items include multiple rezoning requests involving residential, commercial and mixed-use possibilities across Winston-Salem and Forsyth County.

Additional development reviews include the 60-lot Woodland Crossing project in Winston-Salem and a 43-lot Hanes Lake Phase 4 proposal in Forsyth County. For many zoning matters, the Planning Board’s vote serves as a recommendation before final action by the appropriate elected body.
