Guilford County Homeowner Assistance Program Expands Eligibility Sunday

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A county program designed to help lower-income homeowners with rising ownership costs will expand to all qualifying residents beginning Sunday, Aug. 16.

The Low Income Homeowner Assistance Grant opened July 15 with its first 30 days reserved for homeowners age 65 and older. Beginning Aug. 16, any Guilford County homeowner who meets the program’s requirements can apply.

Eligibility includes household income at or below 80% of area median income, owning and occupying the home as a primary residence for at least five consecutive years, being responsible for the property taxes, and having a 2025 tax value of $250,000 or less. Applicants also cannot have outstanding Guilford County liens, assessments or delinquent taxes on the home.

Grant amounts are based on the difference between Guilford County property taxes paid for tax years 2021 and 2025. The county says awards are made in the order complete applications are received until available funding is exhausted. Online applications are open through Oct. 31, while paper applications are available through Guilford County Social Services offices in Greensboro and High Point.
