WS/FCS Students Return Today as 2026-27 School Year Begins

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Students across Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools return to classrooms Monday as the district opens the 2026-27 academic year.

The Board of Education adopted the modified-start calendar in December, setting Aug. 10 as the first student day. District leaders said the earlier start allows high school semester exams to be completed before winter break.

The opening also marks the first August in which students and staff affected by previously announced school consolidations begin at their new campuses. The district’s closure-and-consolidation timeline lists August 2026 as the point when affected students and employees start at new schools.
