Study Ranks North Carolina 14th-Most Dangerous State for Delivery Drivers

A new private analysis is putting North Carolina in the middle of a national conversation about the risks delivery drivers face on the job.

The study from e-commerce automation company AutoDS ranks North Carolina 14th among the states it evaluated for delivery-driver danger. The analysis used several measures tied to day-to-day driving and delivery work, including road deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled, motor-vehicle thefts, dog attacks and average commute times.

The ranking should be read as a private-study comparison, not as an official safety designation from North Carolina or the federal government. Different methodologies, time periods and data sources can produce different state-by-state rankings.

North Carolina maintains its own official roadway-crash information through the Department of Transportation, while state agencies also track broader public-safety data. For drivers who spend much of the workday on the road, the AutoDS analysis offers another snapshot of the mix of risks that can come with delivery work.
