Atlantic Stirs as NHC Tracks Multiple Areas for Tropical Development

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Atlantic is showing more signs of activity as the National Hurricane Center monitors multiple areas for possible tropical development.

In its Monday afternoon tropical weather outlook, the NHC was watching areas of interest across the Atlantic basin while reporting no active Atlantic tropical cyclones at the time. WFMY News 2's weather team highlighted three areas being monitored as the season moves deeper into August.

The increased activity does not mean North Carolina is currently under a tropical warning or that a storm is headed toward the Carolinas. Tropical systems can strengthen, weaken or shift course substantially as forecasts evolve, especially while they are still several days from potential development.

Residents across North Carolina should continue checking National Hurricane Center outlooks and trusted local forecasts as the Atlantic enters a climatologically more active portion of hurricane season.
