Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools Names Randy Bridges Interim Superintendent

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools will have a new interim superintendent beginning Oct. 1 after the Board of Education approved a contract for veteran educator Randy Bridges Tuesday night.

The board voted 8-1 to approve Bridges' contract, which runs from Oct. 1 through June 30, 2027. He will replace Superintendent Don Phipps, who is stepping down at the end of September.

Bridges previously served as interim superintendent of Wake County Public Schools in 2023 and led the Alamance-Burlington School System from 2006 to 2010. He later served as superintendent of Stafford County Schools in Virginia before retiring in 2013.

The district had received at least 20 applicants for the interim opening after Phipps announced in August that he would step down.
