WS/FCS Begins Search for Interim Superintendent Ahead of Phipps Retirement

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has begun the process of selecting an interim superintendent as the district prepares for another leadership transition.

The Board of Education decided at its Tuesday, Aug. 25 meeting to move forward with the search. The interim leader will replace Dr. Don Phipps, who is scheduled to retire Sept. 30.

According to the district, board members hope to announce their choice by Oct. 1. The person selected is expected to serve through June 30, 2027.

The move gives the district a defined bridge period while it determines its longer-term leadership plans. WS/FCS has posted a position announcement for prospective candidates.
