WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police are investigating a single-vehicle rollover on U.S. 421 South that killed two young women and injured a third person Sunday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched around 2:55 p.m. Sunday to U.S. 421 South near the Silas Creek Parkway exit, according to information attributed to the Winston-Salem Police Department in reporting published Monday, October 19.

Police found a 2001 Toyota overturned off the roadway. Investigators said the car was traveling south at a high rate of speed when its driver lost control, struck the median guardrail and trees, and rolled. All three occupants were ejected from the vehicle, police said.

The driver, 20-year-old Nevaeh Angel Hurdley, and passenger Brianna Dawn McCall, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene. The third occupant was taken to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Investigators reported that none of the three occupants was wearing a seat belt. That detail is part of the police account of the collision; investigators have not released a full reconstruction or announced additional findings about the precise sequence of events.

The crash occurred along a heavily traveled corridor connecting Winston-Salem neighborhoods with Interstate 40 and other regional routes. Police have not announced charges or identified another vehicle as being involved.

The department's Traffic Enforcement Unit is handling the investigation. As of Monday's report, authorities had not released further information about what led to the driver losing control.

The deaths are a significant loss for the victims' families and communities. TTN News will update this report if investigators release additional verified findings. Drivers traveling through the area should follow any posted traffic guidance and use caution around emergency responders and investigators.
