Winston-Salem State Shut Out by Bowie State 21-0 on Hall of Fame Weekend

The final score was reported by the North Carolina Sports Network. Complete postgame statistics and a detailed scoring chronology were not available in the sources reviewed, so the account is limited to the confirmed result and pregame information supplied by Winston-Salem State Athletics.

The Rams entered the matchup at 0-5 overall and 0-3 in CIAA play, looking for their first victory of the season after a bye week. Bowie State arrived 2-3 and 2-1 in the conference, with consecutive wins over Elizabeth City State and Shaw. The Bulldogs had averaged 187.4 rushing yards per game through five contests, an offensive identity the Rams were preparing to confront.

Saturday was also Winston-Salem State's 2026 Hall of Fame Game. The school recognized seven individuals and two teams in the Clarence E. 'Big House' Gaines Athletic Hall of Fame class. The honorees included members of the football program and the university's 1978 football team, along with the 2000 softball team and representatives of basketball and other sports.

The contrast between the ceremony and the on-field outcome underscores the challenge facing the current Rams. Their next scheduled opportunity comes October 17, when Bluefield State visits Bowman Gray Stadium. Further detail on Saturday's game will depend on the release of official statistics and comments from the programs.
