WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The family of an 11-year-old boy critically injured in an e-scooter hit-and-run has identified him as Kylen Baldwin and described the difficult recovery ahead, according to a Tuesday update from WXII 12 News.

The boy was struck Sunday evening, October 18, at approximately 8:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of Vargrave Street near Mock Street. Police say the driver left the scene. The case drew widespread concern as officers searched for the person responsible.

Investigators subsequently identified and arrested a 31-year-old Winston-Salem woman on Monday morning. WXII reports that court records list charges of felony hit-and-run causing serious injury, driving while license revoked and failing to report an accident. The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

According to the report, the woman posted a $25,000 bond after her first court appearance and is scheduled to return to court November 5. The criminal case is separate from the family's immediate concerns about the boy's medical condition.

Kylen's father, Rakin Baldwin, organized a fundraising page for medical expenses and described the incident as devastating for the family. The family has shared that the boy continues to face a life-threatening situation while receiving hospital care.

The new information adds to the earlier police report of a critically injured juvenile. This article is an update on the victim's identity, family circumstances and reported charges, not a separate collision.

The incident has raised questions about safety for children using scooters and the responsibility of motorists to remain at crash scenes and contact emergency services. Authorities have not released a final medical prognosis, and the family's account should not be interpreted as one.
