WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Grounds has announced the first five retailers planned for its new mixed-use district near Wake Forest University, giving the public its first detailed look at the businesses that will anchor the project's retail and dining village.
The founding lineup includes The Jimmy, an expanded Mediterranean- and Italian-inspired restaurant and bar from North Carolina restaurateur Jim Noble; The Fieldhouse Tavern, a new food-forward sports bar from Winston-Salem restaurateurs Tom and Brandon Brock; Bagels & Co.; reformer Pilates concept TREMBLE; and Allegacy Financial.
The approximately 42,000-square-foot Retail & Dining Village is expected to open in fall 2027. Developers say additional tenants are expected to be announced by the first quarter of 2027.
The retail village is part of roughly $250 million in Phase I investment at The Grounds, a 100-acre redevelopment in Winston-Salem's sports and entertainment district. Phase I also includes a 229-unit student apartment community, a Wake Forest-anchored office building, 22 luxury residences and major infrastructure improvements.
The project is being developed by Carter and Front Street Capital in partnership with Wake Forest University and the City of Winston-Salem.
