The Transportation Security Administration has temporarily suspended the Gateside by TSA PreCheck program at Piedmont Triad International Airport, according to an October 18 report by WXII. The recently introduced program was designed to allow certain eligible visitors who were not flying to go through security and spend time in the gate area.
The suspension is significant because the program offered a different experience from the airport's normal passenger-only access model. Under ordinary security procedures, travelers need a valid boarding pass or another approved authorization to enter secure gate areas. A special visitor-access program requires additional screening and eligibility rules.
PTI had recently promoted Gateside as a way for approved visitors to accompany family members to the gates, meet arriving travelers or enjoy amenities beyond the security checkpoint. The temporary pause means prospective visitors should not assume those privileges remain available simply because they previously heard about the program.
The TSA's action does not, by itself, mean that scheduled passenger flights are canceled or that standard TSA PreCheck enrollment and screening are unavailable. Those are separate services. Travelers should continue to follow current airline and TSA instructions and arrive with required travel documents.
The available reporting confirms a suspension but does not establish a firm restart date. Anyone planning to meet someone at PTI should verify the current rules with the airport before making arrangements. TTN News will follow official announcements for a resumption or further change.
