HIGH POINT, N.C. — Riders who use the PART Express connection between High Point and Winston-Salem should review their travel plans before November 2. The Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation is changing Route 74 with additional and relocated stops, expanded coverage and a revised pattern of service along the Interstate 74 corridor.

The changes affect one of the Triad's important intercity transit links, particularly for passengers who rely on buses to reach jobs, medical appointments, college campuses and connections to other transit systems. PART announced the adjustments October 2 and has directed riders to check its updated schedules and stop information before the changes begin.

In High Point, the revised route will serve the High Point Terminal, where riders can connect with Amtrak, High Point Regional Hospital, and the University Parkway/North Main Street area. In the Union Cross area, Temple School Road will be a designated stop. The Winston-Salem portion will include Thomasville Road at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at Cromartie Street, Innovation Quarter at Fifth Street and Patterson Avenue, the Winston-Salem Transportation Center, Fourth Street at Chestnut Street, and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at Rams Drive.

Two important changes involve hospital access. PART says Route 74 will no longer directly serve Baptist Medical and Novant Forsyth Medical Center beginning November 2. Those destinations will continue to have Winston-Salem Transit Authority service, but riders accustomed to the PART stops may need to transfer or use a different local connection. The agency is advising customers to review the revised route rather than assume an existing stop will remain in service.

The High Point Terminal and Winston-Salem Transportation Center will remain transfer points for local buses and the broader PART Express network. That matters to riders who combine regional transit with local routes, as well as travelers using the High Point Amtrak station. A trip involving multiple systems may depend on how the new stop locations line up with connecting schedules.

Route 74 began expanded service on March 16, 2026, connecting the two cities on weekdays. PART has said the service was developed to strengthen travel options across the corridor. The November adjustments reflect an additional effort to improve access to key destinations and make regional connections more useful.

The practical advice for passengers is to confirm both the boarding location and the return-trip connection before November 2, especially if their usual destination is a hospital or if they depend on a timed transfer. Updated information is available from PART at partnc.org/Routes-Schedules or through its transit information line, 336-883-7278.

The new routing is scheduled to take effect Monday, November 2. Riders should check for any subsequent agency updates before traveling.
