ATLANTA, Ga. — North Carolina A&T dropped to 0-2 with a 59-10 loss at Georgia State on Friday night at Center Parc Credit Union Stadium.
Georgia State built a 35-7 halftime lead and finished with 284 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. The Panthers totaled 563 yards of offense, while A&T finished with 209.
The Aggies were forced to adjust at quarterback almost immediately. Starter Braxton Thomas left after taking a sack on the opening drive, and junior Kevin White handled most of the remaining snaps. White finished 9-of-22 for 122 yards and a touchdown.
A&T’s biggest offensive play came in the second quarter when White found senior tight end Anthony Rucker for a 61-yard touchdown. It was the second-longest touchdown pass of White’s career and the longest reception of Rucker’s career. Rucker finished with four catches for 80 yards and the score.
Freshman kicker Asher Holland added a 39-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for his first successful collegiate field goal. Defensively, Jonathan Kimbrough-Campbell and Terien George led the Aggies with seven tackles apiece, with George adding a tackle for loss.
Next up is one of the biggest games on the schedule: A&T visits archrival North Carolina Central on Saturday, Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium in Durham.
