GREENSBORO, N.C. — High Point University men's golf is hosting the second Qubein Cup at Sedgefield Country Club, bringing a 13-team field to the Triad for 54 holes of competition Monday and Tuesday. The tournament is the program's second home event of this kind and gives the Panthers an opportunity to compete against a broad mix of regional and national opponents on a familiar North Carolina course.
The Qubein Cup began Monday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start and 36 holes of play. The final 18 holes are scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, with a double-tee start at 8:30 a.m. An awards ceremony is planned after the conclusion of competition. High Point Athletics also lists ESPN+ coverage of the 18th hole on Tuesday.
Sedgefield Country Club, the Greensboro venue known nationally as the home of the PGA Tour's Wyndham Championship, is playing as a par-70 course for the event. Hosting a college tournament there gives players a distinctive test of course management and shot-making, while also placing the university's golf program in one of the region's best-known golf settings.
The field includes host High Point along with Texas State, Loyola Chicago, Troy, Chattanooga, James Madison, Appalachian State, Longwood, UTSA, Loyola Maryland, Gardner-Webb, Liberty and UNC Wilmington. That combination of programs brings teams from several conferences together and creates a valuable late-fall benchmark.
Coach Logan Davis said in the university's advance announcement that the program looked forward to welcoming the field to Sedgefield and finishing its fall schedule strongly. The Panthers' home tournament also gives supporters in High Point and Greensboro an opportunity to follow the team without traveling to another state.
Tuesday's concluding round should determine the team and individual champions. Because the competition was still scheduled to continue at the time of this preview, no final placements or winning scores are being reported here. Those results should be verified through the official scoring service or High Point Athletics before a separate recap is published.
The event connects two major pieces of the Triad's sports identity: High Point University athletics and Greensboro's long-standing golf tradition. For the Panthers, the immediate goal is to finish the fall season against quality competition while building experience for the spring portion of the collegiate schedule.
