CLINTON, S.C. — High Point University men's soccer extended its winning streak to eight matches Saturday with an emphatic 8-0 victory at Presbyterian, continuing an unbeaten run through Big South Conference play. The Panthers improved to 10-3-1 overall and 5-0 in the league.
High Point scored five times in the opening half, putting the result beyond reach well before the final whistle. Daniel Lugo and Prosper Adagani each scored twice, while Alfred Baafi, Anthony Ramirez, Aidan Morrison and Nick Sarantakos also found the net. Six different Panthers contributed goals in the most lopsided Big South result of the season for HPU.
Lugo opened the scoring in the 18th minute on an assist from Adagani. Adagani then scored in the 26th and 32nd minutes as High Point rapidly widened the margin. Baafi added another goal in the 34th minute, and Ramirez converted a penalty kick before halftime. Morrison and Lugo scored shortly after the break, with Sarantakos completing the rout in the 83rd minute.
The Panthers finished with 15 shots, 11 on target, compared with four attempts and two on target for Presbyterian. Goalkeepers Josh Caron and Caleb Trogdon split the match to combine for the shutout, High Point's fifth clean sheet of the season and third in four matches.
The eight goals were the fourth-most in a match in program history and the most High Point has scored against a Division I or Big South opponent. Lugo's two goals brought him to 13 for the season, among the leading totals in Division I. High Point returns home Tuesday, October 20, to face UNC Greensboro at Vert Stadium at 7 p.m., seeking a ninth straight victory.
