Guilford County public health officials have scheduled five walk-in vaccination clinics for middle and high school students, giving families in Greensboro, High Point and Gibsonville additional opportunities to meet school immunization requirements. No appointment is needed for the school-based clinics, which operate from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The first clinic is Monday, October 19, at Eastern Guilford High School, 415 Peeden Drive in Gibsonville. Additional clinics follow October 20 at Grimsley High School, 801 North Josephine Boyd Street in Greensboro; October 22 at High Point Central High School, 801 Ferndale Boulevard; October 23 at Northwest Guilford High School, 5240 Northwest School Road; and October 26 at Southwest Guilford High School, 4364 Barrow Road.

North Carolina law requires school-aged children to maintain specified vaccinations. The county's announcement identifies immunizations against measles, mumps, rubella, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, chickenpox and meningococcal disease among the requirements. Students entering seventh and twelfth grades have particular vaccination milestones.

Parents and guardians should bring vaccination records and an insurance or Medicaid card. The department notes that charges may apply for services billed to out-of-network insurance plans. Families should confirm individual requirements with their school or medical provider instead of assuming every student needs the same shots.

Students can also receive required immunizations by appointment at county public health clinics at 1100 East Wendover Avenue in Greensboro and 501 East Green Drive in High Point, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The county lists 336-641-3245 for appointments.

The announcement comes after the school year has begun, but the additional clinics offer a practical option for families still addressing documentation or overdue vaccinations. Guilford County Schools requires proof of immunization within 30 calendar days of first enrollment.
