GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro Parks and Recreation will restore and expand operating hours at city lakes and recreation centers beginning in September, a move city officials say responds directly to community requests for more access and programming.
Starting Sept. 1, Lakes Brandt, Higgins and Townsend will move to longer seasonal schedules. Fall hours in September and October will run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., while winter hours from November through February will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. March hours will also expand to 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The lakes will continue operating with two closed days each week through March before moving to six-day seasonal operation in April 2027.
The city’s 10 recreation centers will shift to a standard weekday schedule of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with administrative closures from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday hours will vary by location, with several centers open longer than the standard 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. window.
Greensboro is also launching a new Programming Request for Proposals process so nonprofits, businesses and community organizations can propose activities at recreation centers and other city facilities. The city says the expanded hours follow operating reductions made during the 2025-26 fiscal year because of budget cuts.
