GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro is developing a new public safety strategy after a recent wave of violent incidents renewed concern across the city.
WFDD reported Tuesday that City Manager Trey Davis is reviewing city policies, practices and resources to identify gaps in violence prevention and response. Police Chief Kamran Afzal is working with Davis on directing law-enforcement resources toward repeat offenders, situations that could trigger retaliation and other factors that contribute to violence.
The review follows a weekend in which a Saturday shooting marked Greensboro’s 18th homicide of 2026 and a separate Sunday shooting left a victim in critical condition.
The city’s approach is expected to extend beyond policing. Greensboro’s Community Safety Department is expected to support intervention work and services for victims, while city officials are also asking residents to report developing conflicts before they escalate.
The developing strategy comes as Greensboro weighs how to respond to recent violence with both enforcement and prevention resources. TTN News will follow any specific policy, staffing or program changes announced by the city.
