GREENSBORO, N.C. — The City of Greensboro is activating its Orange Flag overnight cooling center Friday, September 18, and Sunday, September 20, as extreme heat continues across the area.

The overnight center at the Interactive Resource Center, 407 E. Washington St., will operate from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and is available to single adults and families. The IRC will also serve as a daytime cooling center Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The city activates the Orange Flag program when forecast daytime temperatures or heat-index values reach at least 90 degrees and overnight temperatures are not expected to fall below 70. Sunday is expected to mark the 67th activation day since June 6.

Greensboro says daytime cooling centers continue operating seven days a week during the summer even when an Orange Flag is not active.
