Greensboro Police Investigate Downtown Shooting; Suspect Shot by Officers

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Greensboro police are investigating a critical incident that began with the shooting of a woman on Spring Garden Street Sunday afternoon and ended with officers shooting an armed suspect after police say he fired toward them.

Police said the officer pursued the suspect, who turned and fired at least one round toward the officer before continuing along the railroad tracks. Officers then fired, striking the suspect. Police said the suspect fell and fired at least one additional shot toward officers.

The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a hospital in critical condition. The woman who was shot was also reported in critical condition. No officers were injured, and police recovered a handgun.
