Duke Names Transfer Walker Eget Starting Quarterback for 2026 Opener

Duke has settled its starting quarterback competition ahead of the 2026 season.

Head coach Manny Diaz named transfer Walker Eget the Blue Devils’ starter for the Sept. 5 opener against Tulane. Eget joined Duke after five years at San Jose State, where he appeared in 27 games and made 18 starts.

Eget arrives with extensive college experience, having completed 421 of 730 passes for 5,563 yards and 30 touchdowns. He earned honorable mention All-Mountain West recognition in 2025.

Diaz said consistency ultimately separated Eget in a competition that also included Dan Mahan and other quarterbacks on the roster.

Duke opens the season against Tulane at Wallace Wade Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on ACC Network.
