WASHINGTON, D.C. — One of the most accomplished guards in Duke basketball history has added another Hall of Fame honor.

Former Blue Devils All-American Tommy Amaker was inducted into the Washington D.C. Sports Hall of Fame on Sunday, Aug. 30, during a pregame ceremony at Nationals Park. Amaker, a Washington-area native, starred at Duke from 1983-87 and started all 138 games of his college career.

Duke went 108-30 during Amaker’s four seasons, won the 1986 ACC Tournament championship and reached the national championship game that year. As a senior, he earned All-America honors and was named the NABC National Defensive Player of the Year. His 708 assists and 259 steals each rank third in Duke program history.

Amaker later returned to Duke as a graduate assistant and spent nine years on Mike Krzyzewski’s staff, including the Blue Devils’ 1991 and 1992 national championship seasons. He has since served as a head coach at Seton Hall, Michigan and Harvard.
