LEXINGTON, N.C. — A 67-year-old Davidson County man is facing multiple charges after deputies say a domestic assault and shots fired at a Lexington-area home led to an overnight manhunt.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded shortly before 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, to Hartman Road. Investigators allege Kevin Spaugh Sr. assaulted a female family member with a hammer handle and strangled her, then pointed a firearm at two other relatives and fired. Neither person was struck by gunfire, and the woman suffered injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Deputies say Spaugh fled into a wooded area, prompting a search involving the Sheriff's Emergency Response Team and Drone Team. He was taken into custody without incident at about 6:41 a.m. Tuesday.

Spaugh faces felony assault by strangulation, two counts of assault by pointing a gun, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and a misdemeanor domestic-violence charge. The charges are allegations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
