CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte FC earned a point in a scoreless draw with Houston Dynamo FC on Saturday night despite finishing the match with 10 men.
Charlotte appeared to take an early lead in the 13th minute when Allan Saint-Maximin fired the ball into the net, but the goal was wiped away because of an offensive foul.
Captain Ashley Westwood later came close to breaking the deadlock with a shot that struck the post. The match changed again in the 71st minute when Westwood received his second yellow card, leaving The Crown to play the closing stages a man down.
Charlotte held firm despite the disadvantage and preserved the 0-0 result. Goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina made five saves for his fifth shutout of the season, according to game statistics reported by The Associated Press.
The draw moves Charlotte to 10-7-6 on the season. Westwood will be suspended for the club's next match because of the red card.
Charlotte FC begins a three-game road stretch Wednesday at CF Montréal, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
