CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte FC added another piece of roster-building flexibility Wednesday, acquiring $350,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money from St. Louis CITY SC.

In return, Charlotte sent St. Louis the MLS Discovery Priority for forward Damion Downs. St. Louis separately announced it acquired Downs on loan from Southampton through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, with a purchase option.

General Allocation Money can be used by MLS clubs within league roster rules to help manage salary-budget charges and complete certain player transactions. For Charlotte, the deal turns a player-discovery mechanism into additional 2026 allocation money without moving a player currently on the Crown roster.

The transaction comes as Charlotte FC prepares to host Houston Dynamo at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Bank of America Stadium.
