GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Carolina Hurricanes return to Greensboro tonight for the franchise's first game in the city since 1999.
The defending Stanley Cup champions will host the Nashville Predators at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at First Horizon Coliseum. The exhibition is part of Carolina's four-game preseason schedule and is being played in the home arena of the Hurricanes' ECHL affiliate, the Greensboro Gargoyles.
Carolina called the Greensboro Coliseum home during its first two seasons in North Carolina, from 1997 through 1999, while its arena in Raleigh was under construction. The return gives Triad hockey fans their first chance in 27 years to see the Hurricanes play in Greensboro.
The Hurricanes enter tonight's game after a 3-2 shootout preseason win over Florida on Tuesday. Nashville is scheduled to host Carolina again Saturday afternoon in the teams' preseason finale.
