Walker Eget Named Duke’s Starting Quarterback for 2026 Opener

Duke has its quarterback for opening day. Head coach Manny Diaz announced Tuesday that graduate transfer Walker Eget will start when the Blue Devils open the 2026 season against Tulane.

Eget joined Duke in February after five seasons at San Jose State. He appeared in 27 career games with 18 starts for the Spartans and earned honorable mention All-Mountain West recognition in 2025. Duke lists his career passing totals at 5,563 yards and 30 touchdowns.

Diaz said the competition with Dan Mahan was difficult to decide, but Eget’s consistency ultimately separated him. Mahan remains part of a quarterback room that also includes Terry Walker III and transfers Blaine Hipa and Ari Patu.

The defending ACC champion Blue Devils host Tulane at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at Wallace Wade Stadium. The opener will air on ACC Network.
